Target Audience

Sequence Experimentation

This video was designed for me to realise how much of an impact a close up can create. The idea was to film a 'how to' style video all in close up. I think it went pretty well, just a few focus issues (should have focused on the hand not the box at 0:22). I plan on using some close ups in my music video. The idea of a close up is to display detail or create tension to audience. For example a close up of a watch would make the audience see the detail i.e. the brand name. My close ups will be used to make the audience see or have an emotional connection, my close up of the girls face is to show her emotion whereas a close up of them holding hands to make the audience have an emotional connection with the image, a symbol for love or friendship.

This was an experiment I wanted to do, as I am planning to a shot similar to this - having the male charcter stand/sit somewhere and let everyone walk around him. However for the effect I'm hoping to achieve I will have to adjust the speed even higher than this clip, which was edited to a speed of 350%. I also need to account for the sound which will be attached to the clips, however I will be dubbing my song over the top. So this video has an amusing sound to it. I think this experiment worked well and got what I hoped for.

This one was again a experiment I wanted to do as I'm planning on using it in my music video. I will be doing a shot of the couple being re-wound. I also wanted to find out how editors did this effect, I've always been a fan of it. I think this experiment worked well and got what I hoped for.

I wanted to learn how to create the 2nd and 3rd editing technique as I want to use them in my video. For me this is a little part of skills development as I didn't know how to do speed up and reverse footage.

Continuity Editing Piece

This is our Continuity Editing Piece. For this we shot several short clips showing different parts of the movement, including different camera shots. This task allowed us to learn how to attach a song off of a CD onto a video made in 'Premier-Pro'. This meant we also learnt how to use the software, 'Audacity'. During the process of this task we also got to grips with filming a bit more, as we became more confident with using the cameras. Which is preparing us for shooting our Music Video independently.
In this task the most common shots were often ones which started at one shot and then changed into another. For example, at 0:10 (when the model walks into the white room through the brown door) it starts with a long shot but then she walks towards the camera, creating a mid-shot by the end.  We have also included close ups on details, such as the button the model pushes at 0:15 and her feet at 0:35. The close ups highlight details and can create tension, it our case it highlights her movement through doors. At the end we have included a pan up of the model, suggesting to the viewer that she has finished her journey.

The editing process involved us editing the shots together to create a match-on-action sequence, which created a continuous edit. During the video there is a costume change which happened unintentionally and by accident, however we feel it works well with the spy type soundtrack we have placed with the video. We have learnt the importance in consistency when filming and editing, so when it comes to making our final music video, we should take care to make sure everything matches unless there is a time change during the video.

Definition of 'Music Video'

A music video is a short clip (normally 3-4 minutes long) which contains a song, that a band or artist has produced, accompanied with visuals. These visuals usually interpret the lyrics of the song. The visuals can range from still JPEG images to live performances of the band or artist and a narrative video (a video which tells a story). Music videos are a large part of marketing for the sales of the particular song, as well as promoting the band or artist.

Musical Director

Transition Music Video

The two bottom screen grabs show the two effects which we used on our video. The first one is a fade to black, this means the shot fades into black and then the next shot. The bottom is of a fade of one shot into another. I feel the video was useful as well a new experience to have done during our transition period. Producing the lip syncing video has meant that I have learnt new skills, such as using premier pro and filming.
